Things to Do in the Tri-Cities!

Prodigy Homes has been your local homebuilder in the Tri-Cities since 2007. We’re proud of our ever-growing region, and if you’re looking to settle down and build a home, the Tri-Cities is an ideal place. If you already live in the Tri-Cities, you probably know about some of the things to do around here, but maybe not all of them. Here are a few of the many attractions the Tri-City has to offer.

The Columbia River

Just one of three rivers in the area, the mighty Columbia is perfect for those who like to boat, wakeboard, ski, kayak, fish, swim, or just relax and watch the water. With hot, dry summers, the Tri-Cities offer a perfect climate for enjoying everything this glorious river has to offer. It’s also home to annual hydroplane races that draw thousands of visitors from all over.

Our 2016 Parade Home had a breathtaking location right on the bank of the Columbia. Check out the gallery to see more stunning pictures.

Badger Mountain

Treeless mountains and dramatic ridges surround the Tri-Cities. One of these mountains is Badger. If you enjoy a gentle hike and spectacular views of the entire area, hiking Badger is a must. According to visittri-cities.com, it’s about 800 feet in elevation, and it’s one of the most popular hiking trails in the area.

Want similarly striking views in your own home? There are many view lots available right now! For example, Falcon Crest boasts the highest building elevations in the area! Visit our Communities page to learn more.

Washington Wine Country!

Within a 1 hour radius of the Tri-Cities, you can visit more than 200 wineries! You can get a list of some of them here. If wine isn’t really your beverage of choice, the area is also home to a number of great microbreweries.

With all of those wineries come vineyards. Can you imagine a more beautiful view than rows and rows of grapevines? There are many neighborhoods in the Tri-Cities where you can get those beautiful vineyard views; one that’s especially worthy of mention is Summit View.

Hanford Reach Museum

According to their website, the goal of the Hanford Reach Museum is to promote “education for all ages.”  As of the writing of this post, the museum has four permanent galleries, which cater to a wide range of interests—the rich flora and fauna of the area, Native American artifacts, current industries, and the rich history of the area, from the Manhattan Project to the Cold War.

There is also a very engaging Outdoor Gallery. Here, you can step inside a 1947 vagabond trailer and a fully-operational cold war bus! Walk through the garden, take a stroll down the Northwest Animal Trail, learn about the farming community, enjoy a splashing fountain made from an old fuel cell assembly, and check out the amazing solar stage!

The Hanford Reach Museum provides a thorough overview of what makes our area unique. Learn more about it on their website.

LIGO Hanford Observatory

LIGO is a national facility for gravity wave research. This observatory made scientific history with the very first detection of gravitational waves from black holes, proving Einstein’s prediction! Anyone with an interest in physics will definitely want to visit this hugely important site. You can check out their tours and events here.

Parks in the Tri-Cities

If you want to have a nice picnic, get the kids outside, ride your bike, or simply take a nice stroll, you’ll appreciate the area’s fine parks. Richland is home to the beautiful Howard Amon Park along the Columbia River. Relax on the well-maintained grass under large shade trees, stroll beside the river on well-maintained pathways, or rest on the plentiful benches and picnic tables. Kennewick offers the sprawling Columbia Park, with enormous stretches of waterfront. Perfect for families, some of its attractions include the Playground of Dreams, a train, and a family fishing pond. In Pasco, you can visit the Sacajawea State Park, which includes an Interpretive center, a beach, large grassy areas, and beautiful surroundings to picnic.

Those are just a few of the area’s many parks. Most parks include playgrounds, bathrooms, splash parks, and other family-friendly amenities. Many neighborhoods offer their own parks. Notably, Westcliffe offers 40 acres of parkland!

McNary National Wildlife Refuge

Perfect for those who love wildlife. Their website says, “The 15,000 acres of sloughs, ponds, streams and islands—riparian and wetland habitat—as well as upland shrub-steppe and cliff-talus habitat are important to migratory waterfowl, shorebirds and songbirds.” The refuge was established in 1956. It is located along the east bank of the Columbia, from the confluence of the Snake river to the mouth of the Walla Walla river. Considered an urban refuge, it’s close enough to be convenient, but remote enough to provide a serene escape. Visit their website to learn more.

Golfing

If you’re a golfer, the Tri-Cities is a perfect place for you! Visit-tricities.com lists ten amazing golf courses found in our area. And best of all, thanks to the area’s mild climate, almost any time can be tee-time!

Are you an avid golfer thinking of moving to Tri-Cities? We have a couple of neighborhoods worth a look. Meadow Springs has an 18-hole golf course, along with the area’s only private country club. And Canyon Lakes features a 4.5-starred golf course rated by Golf Digest!
